1.How long have you been training here at CrossFit Elgin, and what brought you here?

I have been at Crossfit since mid-Dec 2012. My best friend, Kim, introduced me to Crossfit. I was looking for something new in my workouts and Kim had started here a few months before and thought I would like it. She was right!

2.Since starting at CrossFit Elgin, what has your lifestyle been like? Have you changed anything?

I have always tried to maintain a healthy lifestyle with a balance of working out and eating right.
The eating right has always been more challenging for me but since starting Crossfit I find it a bit easier to stick with the healthy eating. It is a lot more difficult to go out a grab a cheeseburger and a beer after I just put so much effort into a kick ass WOD!

3.What is your favorite movement / skill you have learned at CrossFit Elgin?


I am a big fan of squats. Front, back, overhead, any of them. I love seeing just how much weight I can squat. I am always happy to see these on a WOD. I also really like box jumps because it works your whole body.

4.What has been the most challenging part of your journey?

Pushing harder and harder to finally make it up the rope, finally do a pull up unassisted, finally do a knees to bar. Some days it is easier to push myself and others not so much. But that is just one of the things I love so much about Crossfit and all the people here. They push you when you feel like you just can't push yourself any further.

5.What has been the most fun?


Where should I start!? All of it! But if I have to pick, I would say the varied workouts really are my favorite. I really enjoy not knowing until I get here what the workout will be. Some days I love them and some days I hate them. But they are always fun... okay... maybe painful fun...but still fun! : ) And, the people! The people I have met at Crossfit are a lot of fun! The camaraderie with everyone makes those tough WOD's a bit easier to get through.

6.How many days a week do you typically train at the gym?

I workout at least 3 times a week. I would like to do more but being a working Mom of two young boys, 3 days a week is all I can squeeze in for now.

7.What is your approach toward nutrition?

My approach to nutrition is to try and keep it simple. Basically I eat what I want, in moderation, but with an emphasis on fresh fruits, fresh veggies and unprocessed foods. I don't completely cut anything out of my diet because if I can't have it, the more I will want it. I find I typically eat a well-balanced diet during the week; it's the weekend when I have my cheats!

8.What is your favorite activity outside CrossFit Elgin?

My favorite activity outside of Crossfit Elgin...anything that involves my family and traveling. I also love to go out dancing and watching action movies. The more action the better, even the cheesy action movies. Those are the best kind!
